New: the Search for a Gene for Stammering It's long been recognised that stammering/stuttering tends to run in families. Research by Dr Dennis Drayna of the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders in Maryland, USA, has identified mutations in two genes that appear to occur only in people who stammer/stutter.
